Essay 1-03b: Language Learning History

I have learned three languages by now. I learned languages since childhood. Various people, for example, my family and teachers, taught languages to me. Now I am learning English in KGU. I want to introduce about my language learning histories.

First, I learned Japanese from my parents and my older sisters when I was about three years old. My parents always spoke to me, so I could learn Japanese. According to my parents talk, I always imitated words that my parents said. I think children learn by imitating by their parents, their brothers, and so on. My parents taught many words to me, so I’m grateful to my parents. Not only I imitated my parents’ tongue, but also I imitated my older sisters. I have two older sisters, and I heard their conversation when they talked.

Second, I entered kindergarten when I was five years old. I learned Japanese from teachers and peers. Teacher taught many words to me and peers. I learned Japanese song for the first time. Teacher sang a Japanese songs, then I and peers sang the song like teacher. While I sing a Japanese song, I could learn Japanese. At the same time, I read illustration books for the first time, too. I learned pronounce of hiragana by illustration books.

Next, I entered elementary school when I was seven years old. At elementary school, I learned hiragana and kanji. At first, I practiced how to write hiragana. I wrote only a few hiraganas, so it is difficult for me to write hiragana. I’m not good at write hiragana, especially “nu”. I practiced as hard as I could. I’m not good at write hiragana, but I’m good at write kanji. My friends said “I’m not good at write kanji than hiragana.” I was envied it by everyone.

Then, I learned Japanese and English at junior high school and high school. I learned English grammar, and I did conversation in English. It is difficult to understand English grammar, but I became like English. I especially remembered that I sang a song “Thank you for the music” sang by ABBA. I listen to this music occasionally. And I learned an archaic word and a Japanese word of Chinese origin. It is very difficult for me to understand that, so I’m not good at that. I dislike an archaic word and a Japanese word of Chinese origin.

In the here and now, I am learning English in KGU. When I was a freshman, I learned German. I chose German because my favorite soccer players in Germany. At first, I heard German for the first time, so I hardly understand German grammar. German is very difficult. MY friends said “German is very difficult!” too. But I think it is interesting to study language except English. Now I have many things I have to do, but I enjoy learning English. I want to speak English fluently, so I want to hold out to learn English from now.

I learned three languages by now. I’m glad to learn various languages. I think languages are very important things to good communication. I want to come in contact with people who various countries, so I want to learn more languages. I don’t have a plan to study other languages except English and German next year, but I want to try to study other languages someday. I’m interested in Europe, so I want to study languages of Europe, for example, Spanish, French, and so on. But in the first place, I hold out to study English because I want to go abroad next year, and I want to take good score of TOEIC! But I think it is difficult, so I want to do the best. By I graduate from KGU, I want to take good score of TOEIC.
